Shipping & Delivery

Every order ships from Sapporo, Japan, and every box is packed by my own hands. Old things have survived a long time already — my job is to make sure the last leg of their journey is the safest.

Packing

  • Ceramics, lacquer and bronze are wrapped individually and double-boxed with cushioning on all sides.
  • Scrolls and textiles are protected against moisture and folding damage.
  • Blades and tools are oiled, sheathed and secured before boxing.

Carriers and delivery times

  • DHL Express — Europe and North America typically 3–6 days
  • EMS (Japan Post) — typically 5–10 days

Every shipment includes tracking, and I send you the number as soon as the box leaves Sapporo.

Insurance

Every shipment is insured in transit for its full value. If something arrives damaged despite the packing, contact me with photos within 48 hours and I will take care of it.

Customs, duties and VAT

I want to be straightforward about this, because it is the question I am asked most often:

  • Your country may charge import VAT and/or duty when the parcel arrives. These charges are set by your government, not by me, and are the buyer's responsibility.
  • I declare every shipment accurately, with the real value and a correct description. I do not under-declare, for your protection and mine — an accurate declaration is what makes the insurance valid.
  • Genuine antiques over 100 years old qualify for reduced import rates in many countries (including much of the EU). Where a piece qualifies, I note it on the customs documents.

Questions

If you are unsure what shipping or customs will look like for your country, write to me before you order. I have shipped to most of Europe and I can usually tell you what to expect.
