This is an elegant bamboo flower basket titled "Tsubo" (Jar) by Buseki Suigetsu (Second Generation), crafted by the renowned Tokyo bamboo craft workshop Midoriya .
The basket features masterfully woven bamboo with side handles, showcasing the refined craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations of the Buseki family since 1908.
The basket demonstrates exquisite weaving techniques with its tight, uniform bamboo strips creating a sophisticated texture throughout the body.
The graceful curved handles on either side are seamlessly integrated into the overall design, highlighting the artist's technical skill and aesthetic sensibility.
The warm honey-brown patina of the bamboo speaks to both the quality of the material and the careful aging process.
Midoriya workshop was established in Tokyo's Arakawa district and has maintained its reputation for over a century.
Buseki Suigetsu, the second generation, was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property holder by Arakawa City, and his work represents a significant period in modern Japanese bamboo craft history.
His son, Buseki Suikou (third generation, b. 1958), continues the family tradition and has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This piece comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and an inner liner, making it a complete presentation-ready work.
